Our last opportunity to make our voices heard about Yankee heating up the Connecticut River. Please attend the hearing about VT Yankee’s thermal discharge permit this coming Wednesday 8.20.14 at 6pm at Vernon Elementary School.
VT’s Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) is grudgingly allowing thermal discharge to continue because it will stop producing power & hot water on December 29th. This is an about-face for ANR. One year ago, ANR recommended a closed-cycle cooling with no intake or discharge of river water. But Entergy said closed cycle cooling was a deal breaker when it was putting together a deal with the State on Yankee’s closure. The Connecticut River Watershed Council has written a good critique of the permit here
