NRC Public Comment Deadline

February 9, 2015

The NRC has extended the deadline to comment on Entergy’s plan to stop supporting the 10-miles Emergency Planning Zone. On April 2016, Entergy wants to limit emergency planning to the footprint of the reactor site. But highly radioactive fuel will continue to be moved through 2020 from the over-packed spent fuel pool high above the reactor, into dry cask storage. We need to be protected.

17 times, the NRC has granted operators permission to cut short emergency planning after a reactor shuts down. But Vermont Yankee activists have pressured the NRC to do things differently here in the past, and the State of Vermont opposes Entergy’s request.

You can read more about the EPZ plan here. Please write to the NRC with your comments: tell them to deny Entergy’s request. Mail comments to: Cindy Bladey, Office of Administration, Mail Stop: 3WFN-06-A44M, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, DC 20555-0001. If you write or email directly, be sure to add the Docket ID NRC-2014-0260 in the subject line.
