Nuclear Free Jubilee

On October 25, 2008, the Safe & Green Campaign organized a march and ‘jubilant’ rally in Brattleboro to celebrate the future of genuine green energy solutions and the closure of Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee by March, 2012. On a dreary Autumn afternoon, hundreds of people marched up Main St. to the Brattleboro Common carrying elaborate signs, banners, all while cheering and singing. Upon arrival, the upbeat crowd was greeted by numerous vendors and organizations promoting efficiency and renewables including SEVCA and The Greenfield Solar Store.

Participants were treated with the engaging performances of Bread and Puppet as well as the Rev. Billy. Speakers included VT State Senator Peter Shumlin, 2008 Gubernatorial candidates Anthony Polina and Gaye Symington, Citizen Awareness Network (CAN) Executive Director Deb Katz, SolarTopia author and activist Harvey Wasserman, as well Randy Kehler and Ellen Kaye (Safe & Green organizers). Musicians included members of the McCarthur Family
